John Paul II Catholic School joined the Island Catholic Schools’ family in September of 2005. We reside in the building formerly known as Smith Memorial School, which was a Catholic school from 1951 – 1976.
As we head into our 5th year, we have a student population of approximately 75. We have five main classrooms which are as follows: K/1, 2/3, 4, 5/6, 7/8. Our average class size is 15. Our staff has grown to 6.3 teachers, including two specialists in PE and French. We also have two full time educational assistants. We welcome Mrs. Benson back after her leave of absence as well as two new staff members: Mrs. Cheryl Brennan, secretary and Mr. Toban Brooks, classroom teacher.
Volunteers have worked hard this summer to renovate and upgrade our computer lab. Several classrooms have new shelving, and the staffroom has been renovated. There has been lots of painting in the classrooms and gym. We are very grateful for the kindness and generosity of our helpers.
The library has $3000.00 worth of new non-fiction books plus a new “check-out” program. We continue our tradition of purchasing high quality resources and equipment to prepare for our new year. We also have a school bus this year.
Our dedicated staff is able to meet the needs of our students whether they need extra help or extra challenges. We offer a full day Kindergarten, French, fine arts, technology, ESL opportunities, and P.E. Our staff is fully qualified and certified by the BC College of Teachers.
The atmosphere here at John Paul II is warm and welcoming. We are family to one another. Check us out and register today!
