Security

Safety is an important aspect of JPII.  There is staff supervision of students before and after school.  A classroom teacher supervises the children outside for their 15 minute recess in the morning and two educational assistants supervise the students during their noon hour play outside between 12:15 and 1:55 p.m.  The person on duty wears a reflective vest and carries a knapsack containing a first aid kit, walk-talkie, and other essentials.  Extra curricular activities that are held during the noon hour are supervised by teaching staff and parent volunteers.

Our school building is equipped with a PA system in the classrooms, hallways, washrooms, and extra rooms such as the library and gymnasium.  This speaker/microphone system enable messages to be sent throughout the school for information and/or emergencies. There are phones in every room.  We have video recording cameras in the school and we have policies in place for utmost security.  Everyone working in our school has a current criminal record check.

Fire drills, earthquake drills, and internal lock downs are practiced and rehearsed regularly.  Emergency kits and comfort bags are kept in each classroom.  Several staff members have first aid certificates.
